Most of the movie occurs on or around July 4th, in Louisville, KY, with a character's 18th birthday within a week. The final scenes are noted as "Six Months Later," but show the same character's 18th birthday pool party, in what would be January, where the high temperature is 40 degrees Fahrenheit (4 degrees Celsius.)
