This is a joyful as well as entertaining Spanish musical comedy , nicely realized by Ramón Torrado and well produced by Alfredo Fraile and Arturo Gonzalez . Manolo Escobar vehicle showing his singing skills along with the British pre-Hammer Ingrid Pitt . Amusing and entertaining Spanish film with the popular singer Manolo Escobar who steals the show with his sympathy and catching songs . This Escobar recital is an agreeable and lively musical comedy with a lot of songs . After a disconcerting beginning, the story creates a love-humorous plot with a vacation-beach atmosphere, clash of classes and misunderstandings. In ¨Un Beso en el Puerto¨Manolo sings both at the gas station and in jail with some diverting gypsies, in a dreamlike sequence also with a calo atmosphere or in the luxury car of an Ingrid Pitt who is quite wasted beyond showing her palmetto from time to time.
This is a fun and joyful musical comedy with usual ingredients as humor , songs and musical numbers . This is an attractive Manolo Escobar comedy in his usual style with plenty of popular and commercial songs . A nice tale proceeded in silly manner , professionally paced , simple and plain with a slight mess on impersonation of characters . This an enjoyable and feeling movie with spectacular musical set pieces and in the predictable final takes place the ordinary happy end . This is a charming story proceeded in simplicity and delicacy , providing a lot of chances of singing. Finely starred by Manolo Escobar who began his long career in show business between Badalona and Barcelona , in the Red light district currently known as El Raval with the group called : "Manolo Escobar and his Guitarras" , the last ones were his brothers who shared and helped him in his musical trajectory. In 1962 , Manolo rose to fame with his feature debut : "Los Guerrilleros" by Pedro L Ramírez. From now on , he played a lot of films in which performing several songs , such as : "Me has hecho perder el juicio , Entre dos amores , Me debes un muerto , En un lugar de la Manga , Juicio de Faldas , Relaciones casi públicas, El Padre Manolo , Un Beso en el Puerto , Todo es posible en Granada , Pero en que país vivimos , La mujer es un buen negocio, Donde estará mi niño" , among others . And achieveing the greatest musical hits as his main recording : Que Viva España , it sold estimated 6 million copies .The film opens with a prologue that deals with some ironic and satiric elements , Benidorm's progress from a sleepy little seaside town to a bustling modern resort. Manolo (Manolo Escobar) is fired from his job as a gas station driver because he spends more time singing than using the pumps. In Benidorm, and after following the advice of his friend Jaime (Arturo López), Manolo tries to win over the tourists with a name confusion trick. One of them is Dorothy (Ingrid Pitt), an American who is waiting for her cousin Carlos (Manuel Alexandre) at the port. Co-stars Ingrid Pitt before becoming a vampiric muse for the Hammer, Ingrid Pitt was Manolo Escobar's partner in this typical musical of the Sixties . Quite forgettable, with an embarrassing script with plenty of ridiculous situations, confusion and songs ; it benefits from the secondary participation of known secondaries, such as : Antonio Ferrandis, José Orjas , Manuel Alexandre, Joaquín Roa, Arturo López, María Isbert , Luis Induni and Luis Sánchez Polack "Tip¨.
The motion picture was middlingly directed by Ramon Torrado . Ramon was born in 1905 , Galicia, Spain . He was a director and writer , known for directing some vehicles of known Folkloric stars such as Peret in Amor a Todo gas (1969) , Manolo Escobar in Un Beso en Puerto (1966) and Paquita Rico in Malvaloca (1954). The nice craftsman Torrado directed four mediocre Chorizo Westerns , such as 1964 La Carga De la Policía Montada , 1964 Relevo a Pistolero and 1963 Bienvenido, Padre Murray and 1965 Los Cuatreros . Rating : 4.5/10. Very mediocre , only for Manolo Escobar and Ingrid Pitt fans.
