obviously, few people have seen this movie gem. but here is the question that drives us all: if this movie really is as great as I say it is, how is it possible nobody knows it? that's a good question. to find an answer, we must first concentrate on the director: Eric de Kuyper. I only saw A very strange Love Affair before this Pink Ulysses, but I already knew this man was a genius in making a good movie. why did he stop making them? nobody knows but he.
back to Pink Ulyssus: it's a great experimental film that can be enjoyed if you like art films. you really have to like art films to like this one, but that's the whole point: Pink Ulyssus is a film for the elite.
still, you must enjoy images of men with naked torsos, because the movie is filled with them. but even if you don't like men or if you haven't got homosexual feelings, you will love this movie. it's sublime, I can't find many words to describe it, because it made an impact on me. I was watching the movie and it felt as if someone turned my head à la Linda Blair. really. that's why I still have trouble finding words to express the way I experienced it.
but let's try: the story isn't of much importance. what does, is the way of telling it: the title of this film reveals we are watching the Odyssee. well, actually, we do, but not really: the movie is filled with short stories, although sketches is a better word, even if it's not funny, which it isn't (with the exception of the 5 minutes of a man trying to help a naked woman). so yes, we still see many parts of the Odyssee, but actually, I think this movie is about fun and games with men with strong, heavy muscles, in striking poses and impressing formats.
to describe this movie, would be impossible. even I did. I tried, but I failed. you should have to see this movie for yourself. or if you know the director personally, ask him to put on DVD. and if you do know him, say please, because I want this movie in my collection. we cannot see this movie except in special cinemas. that's why few people had the honor of seeing it. please, mister de Kuyper, release your films on DVD!
