Matou a Família e Foi ao Cinema

Famous experimental film by Brazilian filmmaker Júlio Bressane. Weird and sluggish, but very well filmed and challenging military dictatorship in its direst years by portraying police torture and lesbianism. The film shows disconnected or confusingly connected situations (the fact that the same actors played different character makes it even more confusing), either in real life or in cinema (it is seldom clear) of murders involving dissatisfaction with life and family followed by remorseless celebrations. The contrast of samba or romantic music with very violent scenes repeats several times along its hour-length. There is an intentional break with linear script, and the film is often celebrated just due it, but I did not like it very much. Indeed, I prefer more stylish remake bt Neville D'Almeida, which is also not linear and quite faithful to Bressane's original script.
