The film caused controversy when it was released, but
Bente Børsum, the leading actress, said she have nothing to be ashamed of. "I don't regret that film, I think it was cleanly done, there was nothing dirty about it. The only thing I have to object to was the way was depicted the sex scene between mother and son. It sort of just became an "ordinary" sex scene," said Børsum, who strongly disagreed with this, but then she didn't feel brave enough to talk out about it, even though she had become an experienced actress of 40 years. "There were only men on the set, and they were so happy... But I thought that was not good. The mother rips the sweater off her son - it's not something a mother would do in such a situation. I would have made it more clear that this was a relationship between a mother and a son, shown that there was a combination of sex, but also maternal warmth, which seemed redeeming for the main character ... I don't know - I didn't agree anyway."
