As we all know, the 1980's gave us the golden age of Z-grade cinema. Offering us such shot-on-video disasterpieces as Blood Cult, Blood Lake, Video Violence, and of course, Black Devil Doll From Hell. Much like the Drive-In era before it, the Z-grade era would also run its course. Technological advances, awkward trends, and the internet would abolish the mysterious charms of the s.o.v.'s big-boxed golden years. And anything remotely resembling genuine schlock was all too self-aware for it's own good. And with growing interest in big-budget Hollywood, it would seem as though, for the most part, the B-movie, as well as the Z-movie were dead and buried. Well, not dead, exactly. More like on life-support. Enter Todd Sheets.
That's right, Todd Sheets. not everyone changes with the times, ya know. This guy continued the tradition long after most everyone else gave up, or sold out. Making "so terrible, they're incredible" Zombie gore epics, such as the now legendary Zombie Bloodbath. But this one is about Demons. Aside from that, who the hell knows what's going on here? The lighting is atrocious to the point that it's impossible to tell that this movie is in fact a demon movie, and not a zombie movie. But, whatever. Nice gore, nice metal soundtrack. You won't hear any complaints out of me. just observations. Anyway, we're looking at some very grim, very, very unpolished Horror for the real Horror fan. No popular hiphop score, no pretty people, no normal Hollywood pattern... and of course, no budget. Just pitch-black madness, and unnecessary amounts of gore. And, oh yeah, hilarious acting from the legendary Jerry Angell. Man, that guy is funny. To be honest, Bloodthirsty Cannibal Demons falls a little short, compared to some of Todd Sheets' earlier stuff, like Zombie Rampage. Not quite as much gore as before, and incoherent would definitely be the best word to describe everything else. Just a bunch of running, yelling and killing, in the dark. With that said. If the overrated films of George Romero and Sam Raimi bores you (yeah, I said it) then there's a chance you might find the REAL independent Horror of Todd Sheets to be refreshing, but probably just hilarious. Although, you might want to work your way down to the bottom of the barrel slowly, and start with something like Hell Of The Living Dead. 6/10
