Flying Over Mother

It was very gratifying to come across a very insightful review of this film some 14 years after it's release and my very close involvement with it, both as mentor to students, telecine grader and a small walk-on non speaking part in the beginning, as the General. Because of my Russian heritage, Michael Rowland approached me to act as consultant to the designer, dialog coach, co writing the song in addition to asking me to be on camera. So I can say that while I was working in Post Production at the Australian Film , Television and Radio School (AFTRS), where Michael was a Directing Student, that I was privileged to see the genesis and final outcome of this beautiful short which still resonates with my cultural background. Michael indeed managed to capture the soul, look and mood of the time and the main character in the most challenging format of the short narative film. It's all there, history, plot, characterization drama and resolution, a shinning example of the craft of story telling in the Short Film genre.
