This small film contains a load of huge talent, primarily Blake Boyd's. I saw it at the Deep Ellum Film Festival in Dallas a couple of months ago and was surprised to find it contained in the IMDb files since it is only seven minutes long. . . It's strong as a brief showcase of acting talent. Boyd has the ability to shift into an overdrive of believable insanity or otherness I have rarely seen in young actors. As far as I know, it was Boyd's first directing effort, and he did a good job of telling a story incredibly quickly. . . FISH is also well edited with rich images closely aligned and nothing wasted, from the flat outer world of a prison to an inner world of weird individuality immediately revealed. . . The score is solid, music for a quickly deep, offset romanticism that plays dramatically against the sickness of the film's central character. . . If you're lucky, you'll see FISH in some festival somewhere, catch it before it's imprisoned forever in a real steel can.
