I just saw this on SHO Demand. I always want to know what happened to people after they seem to have disappeared from the face of the earth. My feeling is that it is good thing on the most part and a lot of people are just taking care of business and living their lives off the stage or screen as people with regular jobs and pretty good lives. I really am not the sort of person who thinks if a person is out of the limelight something bad happened. And for the most part that is what seems to have happened with a lot of the ex Annies and Orphans of either the Broadway, the touring company or the the movie version of Annie. Some of course are still in the limelight. But most seem to have nice lives as mother, psychologists, or other jobs.
It was interesting to hear about the mothers who went on tour with the Production. Actually the stories about them are more interesting then the stories about the Annies. Which was pretty much nothing new from what we hear about life as a child stars. The stories about the mothers are nothing new either. If you are looking for dirt and gossip this is not the movie. There are some little tidbits about a mother getting pregnant and families breaking up and a Orphan sending a anti semitic note to another orphan and about how some of the adults in the cast were not so nice, but no names were mentioned. This movie is about what the title conveys.
I liked that they included the very first Annie before it came to Broadway. I think it was a delightful movie. What made me enjoy this so much it that the Orphans and Annies seems on the most part to have pretty happy lives now. This was not a movie about sadness and grief and the hard life of being a ex child star. Even though they touched on how after a certain age you were dismissed with nobody to there to offer help.
One part I really liked is to see some of the Annies and Orphans perform today. They sound the same. What is odd is that a lot of them do not look anything like they did I know they of course are adults but I could not see a resemblance. I think it has something to do with the Annies wearing wigs. This is nice little documentary and after the movie is over you have a good feeling not a sad one as many of these let's catch up to documentaries. The only thinking I was not too crazy about is that there was a few ex Annie, Orphans in the movie that we saw very little of. I would of liked the time to be more equally distributed. Like I already know what happened to Sarah Jessica Parker, lets give some more time to the ones we don't know what happened to, let them tell a story. I would of been happier if she was not in the movie. But over all it was a good experience.
