God only knows quite what you have to be smoking to come up with the idea, but Pasta For War is, as the title would suggest, a wartime propaganda film about pasta preparing for battle. The main thrust of the film is that it is an off-the-wall take on the propaganda films of WWII and, as such, it works really well because it captures it perfectly. The title cards, the spinning papers, the abrupt cuts between pieces of music and the general air of uplifting victory and hope.
All this makes for an interesting and enjoyable 4 minutes, even if the film isn't totally successful in all regards. Where it doesn't really deliver is in the story (of Toni) that happens within the film. We are meant to care for this pasta in particular because he seems to be slightly fearful. The animation that is impressive in the bigger picture doesn't quite work at this level though as it lacks sufficient detail to produce character in this character. It still does just about work but not as well as you can see it was intended.
That said though, it is still more than good enough for four minutes simply in how it recreates the feel of a propaganda film but does it with totally off-the-wall imagination and, well, pasta.
