The Villages in Florida is now the fastest growing "town" in America. With 155,000 inhabitants, 54 golf courses and 70 swimming pools - all impeccably maintained - it's almost the size of Manhattan. Provided every convenience to enjoy their twilight years, its retiree residents have no reason to ever leave this sun-drenched, gated paradise. But what at first glance appears to be the fulfilment of the American dream cracks upon closer inspection. After all, maintaining this bubble has a price not only for its inhabitants, but also for the world around them. With humour and fun, director Valerie Blankenbyl dives into this parallel universe of carefree living to create an engaging documentary on an extraordinary social experiment, asking questions not only about our views on ageing, but also about our sense of self-entitlement.

I actually LIVE in The Villages!

This is a great example of how there are many points of view in any story. My husband and I arrived at The Villages almost "by accident" and we are so glad to be here. The quality of life and the opportunities to help other people and the numerous jobs it offers to the communities around it are fantastic! Come and visit before you make your conclusions about the documentary!
