Inside Crystal Lake Memories (2009)
*** 1/2 (out of 4)
Del Howison interviews writer Peter Bracke, the author behind the book "Crystal Lake Memories" which is the main piece of work on the franchise. Bracke starts off talking about how originally the book was going to be something small but soon he had interviewed over two hundred people and the hype behind the book had reach such a height that he determined it would be best to do something major. Since this featurette was included with Friday THE 13TH PART II, a lot of the time is devoted to that film. We hear a few stories about how the film went into production and that Sean Cunningham, Victor Miller and Tom Savini all objected to Jason being the killer. They thought the film should tell a new and different story so all three of them walked away from the picture. Another topic includes director Miller wanting to do a more professional looking film and that everyone involved knew they had to deliver more gore and violence. The MPAA cutting the film by a minute is also discussed and we hear about the original ending, which was cut and is why what we currently have makes very little sense. If you have the book then none of this stuff will be new to you but Bracke is still very entertaining to listen to and I think most will enjoy this piece. The stories are great and there's no question that watching this will make you want to rush out and get the book in question.
