Caviar is a weird mockumentary-horror, that combines elements of found footage, mock social media posts, and deep fake audio clips of real politicians (with videos featuring professional lookalikes), to fashion a bizarre conspiracy about a "missing" activist, aliens, and owls...or something like that.
It's kind of hard to follow exactly what is going on in the rest of the film, to be honest.
But the plot revolves around a left-leaning family being drawn deep down the rabbit hole of a right wing conspiracy.
Which acts to both blend and blur the lines between the two dichotomies.
It plays off a series of tropes present in mediums particularly exploited by the fringe extremes of the internet.
Things like youtube series, vodcasts, and podcasts.
All of which culminates with an absurd story about the nefarious intentions of owls - who may or may not be aliens and/or demons from another dimension or planet.
Either way...whatever it's about...it's a convoluted mess.
Albeit, by design.
Because even when it's over...you still aren't sure what the hell it was ever about.
Other than it has something to do with a bad trip...or mkultra...or child sacrifice...or some combination of the three, perhaps.
Who the hell knows.
Just embrace the weirdness.
And roll with it.
Cause none of it makes any sense.
It's just a ride.
