Alexander Knox(1907-1995)

In 1987 (after his career had nosedived), his son Andrew boarded a Jersey ferry bound for the mainland in London. When the ferry docked, he was not on board. He is presumed to have either drowned accidentally or to have committed suicide.

He could have been a Billy Wilder, a Visconti or whatever. But something held him back. He was always on the brink of commercial success, pulling back at the last minute.
