Kazuo Komizu's nom-de-guerre, "Gaira" is derived from the movie
La batalla de los simios gigantes (1966). The Gaira character
is a vast beast which runs around eating all the humans it can find. It
is better known in the English-language version as the "Green
Gargantua.".
