Alpa's ancestral surname is "Trivedi." Growing up in India, her eldest uncle, who worked at a local bank to put himself through college, changed his surname from "Trivedi" to "Banker" when told that no one of his lineage could ever move to America for a better life. Upon fulfilling that dream, both he and Alpa's father kept the new surname.
