Gary Colman was born in Birtley, County Durham, United Kingdom. He is a stand-up comedian, actor and writer.
He attended Lord Lawson Comprehensive school, before studying medicine at Leicester Medical School where he qualified as a doctor in 1992.
Before working in comedy he served 14 years as a doctor in the British Army where he served, amongst other places, in Northern Ireland, Bosnia, Afghanistan, plus on anti-terrorist operations. He completed training in Arctic Warfare and Jungle Warfare. During his time in the army he also represented the army in competitive snowboarding and was the founding chairman of the Army Snowboarding Association. And still has the bruises.
He left the army to work in comedy, however he continues to work one session a week as a doctor, providing medical outreach to people experiencing homelessness in London.
He started comedy in 2009 and was a finalist in Hackney Empire New Comedian of The Year, Jongleurs New Comedian, and TV Comedy Forum's 'Future of TV Comedy'.
In 2009 he also completed his training in the Meisner Technique, under Tom Radcliffe at The Actors Temple, London, United Kingdom.
He has a passion for table-top gaming and is the founding trustee and chairman of Game Therapy UK, a charity using table-top role playing games (such as Dungeons & Dragons) to support social inclusion (such as people experiencing homelessness, addiction, neurodivergence, and military veterans with mental health diagnosis).
He is known primarily as a comedy performer, stand-up, actor and writer.
