Was raised in the south (Texas and Georgia) until 6 years old. Her family moved up north where her elementary school teacher deemed her southern drawl inappropriate. Laura was immediately sent to a speech therapist. Moving back down south in 1996, the first question asked by a co-worker was, "Are you from the Chicago area? I detect an accent." Go figure.
