Prior to becoming an independent filmmaker, Geoff Mattera spent the better part of his career as a videographer and editor working in community media and local government television. His years of experience with conducting video interviews provided him with the opportunity to explore a wide variety of real life human interest stories. The most poignant of these experiences was when he traveled to East Africa in the mid 2000's to produce a short documentary about the region's clean water crisis.
Now after transitioning to the world of fictional storytelling, Geoff seeks to apply the same humanist perspective he cultivated during his "non-fiction days" to his movies. In any given project, Geoff's writing and directing displays a vision that is empathetic with his films' characters and their stories. Interested in the granular details of human behavior, Geoff's work never judges these characters for their faults and foibles but only seeks to better understand them and their situations.
Geoff is the Director of the Newnan Film Society in Newnan, Georgia were he lives with his wife and two children. The goal of the film society is to reach out and connect with local film enthusiasts, as well as highlight and showcase exceptional films and exceptional filmmakers whose works have been unappreciated by the mainstream culture.
