Aloysio Raulino's short documentary about Brazil's largest port, the Port of Santos, is a curious view about the population, the area, the services
it provides and the culture from the place. It's not completely memorable or highly informative since it doesn't have any narrator telling facts about the place
and its importance - maybe there were some disclaimers but it's very reduced - but some of the images are powerful to show a period of time and it holds relevance
to those who live back there.
Raulino had a tendency to make short experiences that prefered to show its object of filmmaking without explaining it much, it's all up to viewers to fill in
the blanks. But the Port of Santos is one magnificent port, the largest in Brazil, shipping and receiving ships from all over the world and doing its business, wheter
to get packages to be deliver all through Brazil and sending ones to the world and sometimes drug trafficking end up there - it's not unusual to hear about findings
there.
Yet Raulino doesn't get near such issue since at the time those weren't the main issues, and he goes to show the population of such are which includes some
poor villages in the surrounding and that's where he gets the most memorable image from the film and the one featured in the poster: a man in his underwear dancing
in the street. That sequence alone worths the whole view for countless reasons. As he dances to a Sidney Magal song, in his underwear showing his quite fit pyshique
he isn't bothered by any of the locals, who watch him in curiosity and as he happily moves around. A dog tries to disturb him but nothing happens. The way everything
was presented I was hoping for the worst with prejudicial people going after him but nothing happened; maybe some laughs but no aggression. By some comments I read, he
was a quite popular figure in the area but I couldn't find anything about his whereabouts. And it shows the culture of the place's population where everything seemed nice despite the outcome, of not having everything, though it was a place of progress and economical development because of the beaches and the port.
Perfect cinematography and showing of the place, this is a special piece presenting an important Brazilian location that even if you don't know it or never
got there, you certainly received some goods from there. Get to know the ones who serve you in some way. 6/10.
