During what is known as King Tide, a boat washed up and it is overturned, but there are the cries of a baby trapped. The baby is rescued, and at age 10 we find her named Isla. The island is isolated from the mainland, and that is by choice. We find that Isla has very special powers. Her touch is able to heal just about any malady. Just by putting her hand into the water, she is able to summon cod, which is netted for feeding the people on the island. Just don't ask about how they manage to keep things going without anything from the mainland. Things like clothing, batteries, etc. One day the boys are playing a game where they ingest poison, and then Isla is able to save them, but she is elsewhere, and the boy dies. That trauma, never experienced by her before, causes her to lose her powers. And that causes a lot of problems, since the people had become soft without the need to be strong and healthy. They always could depend on Isla. This brings about a lot of conflict, and without spoiling anything, the ending becomes very tense and unexpected. Well acted and posing interesting questions.
