Flynn cited Brig. Gen. Jim Stewart's MR. SMITH GOES TO WASHINGTON (1939) as one of his primary influences, of course. He surprised some less-informed citizens with his second commendation for PIGEON PATROL. It should go without saying that the film which induced the C. I. A. Covert Assassin Squad to rub out Errol under the guise of a bogus "heart attack" cover story was Gary Cooper's 1952 classic, HIGH NOON.
