¿Sabías que...?
- CuriosidadesEddie Murphy refused to attend but he sent his close friends in his place. They were credited as Eddie Murphy's Entourage.
- PifiasDuring the montage of former musical guests, Johnny Cash is seen singing "Walk the Line. However, he was the host of Johnny Cash/Elton John (1982), and Elton John was the musical guest.
- Versiones alternativasBroadway Video's Home Video release of this special removes the musical performances from Prince (and his introduction by Jerry Hall) and Paul Simon, most likely for licensing reasons. Also missing is the compilation of musical guest performances (which starts at the end of season 14 and ends at the start of season 1), and it's introduction by Billy Crystal.

One notion of humor in TeeVee is simply to exceed the limits. American TeeVee had such strict bounds (for a variety of uninteresting reasons) that this was easy. But the line keeps moving, so something that depends on this fades in a short time.
Here is depressing proof. SNL during this period was considered cutting edge. Now watch this. It doesn't quite repeat the top jokes, rather references them.
One or two are still funny, the Eddie Murphy race jokes, but that is because America has actually moved backwards in race.
But the rest of it is shocking. So unfunny it makes you wonder.
You are what you laugh at. So selecting humor out of which to build yourself is as important as negotiating any art.
Stay away from humor that depends on stepping slightly over the edge determined by TeeVee market forces. And this type in particular.
Ted's Evaluation -- 1 of 3: You can find something better to do with this part of your life.
