I find it disturbing that director Anette Winblad can be so out-of-touch with the masses that she carves out this dull character-drama about three girlfriends since childhood, featuring clichés in their respective relationships and pointless dialogue between them as we follow their ordinary but dysfunctional adult lives. The first one is a brunette alcoholic in denial, the second is a quirky redhead with her own café and the third is a pushover blonde in an abusive relationship. So I guess you could say the redhead is the most functional person in their trio, and guess what -- the film proves me right.
Sex Points is poorly constructed, mostly because it offers no explanation as to why the characters are the way they are, or why they do the things they do and this is a fatal failure for a drama that is supposed to be CHARACTER-DRIVEN. Had it not been, it would have been excusable -- albeit disappointing -- now it is simply unforgivable. What is also unforgivable is Sanna Carlstedt's (the alcoholic brunette) acting. It actually wounds me. The other performances hold up pretty well.
To be fair, Sex Points is not completely unwatchable because it's reasonably fast-paced and does not sneak in pseudo-insights about relationships or life in its writing -- it should be seen as a flawed character study of three different 20-something girls living in Sweden. But as entertainment, this is about as entertaining as getting an arrow shot through your neck and finding that there's a gas bill tied to it.
