This is a pilot that was not picked up as a series due to the prohibitive cost of CGI animation. It was instead aired on the Fox Kids Network as a Special on May 1, 1993.

When Spin shoots out of the cannon, he comes apart completely on impact with the rock-face. In the next shot, however, his head and left arm are re-attached.

The VHS of the movie differed slightly from the initial airing on Fox:
A segment in the beginning of the film involving Spare Tire testing out the President's limo was edited out of the TV version.
Some extended dialog from Dr. Zub as Slick and Spin goof around in the sky.
As Piston Head falls into the dumpster, Junkman pronounces him as a moron. This line was cut from the TV showing.

The Crash Dummies

Today, the Crash Dummies are probably best remembered as something of a nineties phenomenon. Back in 1992 when the popular line of toys from Tyco reached the height of its success, this animated made-for-TV short was produced. It originally aired on FOX TV, but it was later re-packed as a video to be sold with one of the action figures, which is, ultimately, how I acquired it.

The Incredible Crash Dummies was one of the first computer animated movies ever made, and the graphics have held up surprisingly well. It's nowhere near the professional level of Pixar but it's not as wooden as one would expect either.

The important thing is that this movie is fun. I probably haven't watched it since I was 9 or 10 but at least I know I enjoyed it at that age. It's not meant to be viewed by adults anyway. It's made with good innocent humor and it doesn't overstay its welcome. Anyone who loved the toys will probably like this movie.
