The scenario of Hojas Verdes de Otoño (Green Leaves of Autumn) is the small town of Saladillo in the great plains of Buenos Aires Province, 200km southwest from Buenos Aires. Dante, in his early teens, lives with his older brother David in their mother's house, a typical small town dwelling with rooms in front abutting the sidewalk and large backyards used to grow food vegetables and sometimes to house chicken coops. Their father Luis, an alcoholic, runs a shoe repair shop in the center of town and rarely contributes to the family's needs, David is unable to find a job in in town and the family has severe cash flow problems. There are other family members; an aunt and grandparents, all willing to serve as refuge for the brothers when the situation at home becomes unbearable.
Directors Fabio Junco and Hugo Midú put on screen the tale (written by themselves) smoothly and evenly with some memorable scenes such as Grandfather looking at a table full of photos of his son or the boys' aunt delivering news to them, seen at a distance through a window.
This movie was filmed within the project Cine con Vecinos (Cinema with Neighbors) initiated by the directors in Saladillo, whereby movies were made on a communitary basis, involving townspeople in all aspects of the filiation and using local talents and locations. It was later realized in other towns. Many of the movies that resulted from this project are available in YouTube.
