A short film made by and for Spider-Man fans. Having the total essence of our neighbor, possessing great entertaining and pleasant moments. "Spider-Man: Cake Day" is a very good fan film, bringing that characteristic approach of the early comics and standing out among other similar productions. In just 8 minutes, the experience is beautiful and incredible.
Peter France did a great job reflecting his love for the character, providing excellent camera angles complemented by quite good CGI. The production is very decent, admirable, and grand. All the references or nods to those main spider comics are more than noteworthy: Peter Parker's social attire, the classic suit walking through the streets of New York, the simple adventures of the spider, and more.
Josh Borja as Peter Parker isn't bad, but it doesn't fully connect either; still, it has its merit. Avery Stevens, like Mary Jane, seems to me a great choice-very pretty, pleasant, and bringing back that typical phrase of hers in conversation with the photographer.
Notable moments that occur in each swing of Spider-Man, being visually stunning and much better than other fan films. Spider-Man Lotus? No, this one is definitely worth it. The musical score is iconic, nostalgia in all its glory. Another noteworthy point is the way the use of the web and the arachnid sense was depicted.
"Spider-Man: Cake Day" has a significant number of very noticeable continuity errors, leaving a lot to discuss. Additionally, there are some very shaky shots that make it difficult to appreciate the fluidity of movement, along with special effects that, despite their level of detail, appear meager.
The reflective message that this short film leaves us is sublime, focusing on justice, the adversities that come with wearing the suit, and the strong bond of love between Peter and MJ. Alongside that, the way in which Spidey's good deeds are rewarded, despite the obstacles encountered along the way, shows that even a superhero has complications. For that reason and more, our friendly neighbor is a role model to follow.
I could also notice a little essence of Tobey Maguire and Sam Raimi's Spider-Man.
Without a doubt, it's worth giving it a chance. Despite its negative aspects, the experience is great.
