Wow!
That is what I keep repeating in my head over and over again whenever I see Lee Joongi in "Again My Life". He is oozing with charisma, good looks, dramatic acting, subtle acting, and amazing martial arts skills. Whenever he throws a punch, lands a rotating kick, or does a flying jumping kick, I find my jaw on the floor.
Lee Joongi never disappoints! He always delivers to top notch perfection. Just him appearing in this drama is a good enough reason to go watch it right now.
But, let's also talk about the story, cast, directing, and the beautiful background music.
The drama is inspired off of the novel and webtoon both which are both exemplary on their own. Having read the webtoon before hand, I already knew some of the scenes and the character stories and I should tell you that unlike most webtoon adaptations, this drama does not disappoint! The story is well balanced between the politics, law, action, and comedy. And is in a good pacing that keeps everyone wanting to watch the next episode.
Well, this could be the reason why the drama rating kept on increasing each day it aired and surpassed all the dramas that were airing on the same time slot.
The cast studded with prominent actors and are excellent! My only complain would be the female lead, Kim Jieun, who had limited expressions on her face, and the same delivery throughout the drama in any scene despite it should be in different emotions. The actress would have matched a rookie well. However, against the very talented Lee Joongi, her average skills are pretty noticeable and I got annoyed whenever she is on screen. Moreover, she got easily shadowed by Kim Jaekyung, who plays "Han Mi". A much colourful role than "HeeA" played by Kim Jieun. Also, HeeA was not present in the drama for more than 2 minutes each episode and was not relevant to the main story line. So, she was easily skippable making the watch much more pleasant.
In my honest opinion, the female lead should have been Cha JooYoung who plays the "Grim Reaper" also Director Han Jihyun. Her screen time exceeded all the other "love interests" of Heewoo and directly impacted the plot as well. A love interest to this story would not have required at all.
This is the sole reason to deduct 1 star out of 10.
But that is my only complain. The rest of the cast did do their jobs amazingly. Especially all the villains.
The directing of a drama that involves time jumping and action is not easy. However, the director kept us all on the edge with his story telling. The action scenes were well directed and choreographed that it provided me such an adrenaline rush to just watch all of them fighting.
And I should mention all the OSTs used by the drama as well since the songs are all amazing and so unique to other kdramas that I have watched so far. The OST "Till the end" that plays after each episode is my favourite. All the songs are very upbeat and fun to listen to. A bit westernized but in good quality neverthless.
All in all, this is one of the best dramas in 2022 and a must watch by everyone!
