'Force Majeure' upends the stereotypical family drama to address issues of desire, guilt and punishment. One snowy day, Mom and Dad are leaving for their traditional hunting trip for the weekend. The curious teenager daughter, Sisi, is left behind to watch over the family's dog, a tiny Yorkie that is not permitted beyond the dog gate. Upon Sisi's invitation, it is the groundskeeper of the family property who gets access over the dog gate for a night of intimacy. Audience expectations are swiftly smashed when the returning parents are greeted by a disaster of sorts. The family is so thoroughly and absurdly incapable of confronting this disaster that a 'maybe-not-so-innocent' bystander has to be taken as a scapegoat and suspended indefinitely behind the dog gate.
