Film does good of what it tries
Predator: Badlands opens a rare window into the inner world and culture of the Yautja. It succeeds at nearly everything it attempts: introducing fresh monsters, exploring Weyland-Yutani robotics, and expanding the universe in interesting ways.
That said, the film leans a bit too heavily into emotional themes such as trauma, family bonds, and even the feelings of synthetic beings. While these elements add depth, they sometimes feel redundant.
Still, the movie is undeniably fun. Just don't expect it to recreate the raw atmosphere of the original Predator 1987, that lightning-in-a-bottle moment is gone forever, same thing can be said for Terminator franchise.

Totally love the current Predator and Alien direction!
YEESSSS!!! As a big fan of the original 1987 Schwarzenegger movie, I have seen all the Predator (and Alien) movies they have put out...including the ones that were awful and wasted my time (i.e. Requiem).
This "Badlands" movie, "Killer of Killers", and "Prey" have all fully resurrected the fandom's interest in wanting more again, in lieu of being okay if the franchise died. Trachtenberg single-handedly brought the series back to life...it is in good hands.
Still connected to the Weyland-Yutani Industries (see Alien series), this flick totally kicks ass with action, believable CGI, great sounds, cool scenery, a little comic relief, villains, unlikely friendships, adaptation-evolving theme, etc. Production, cinematography, plot...totally spot on. See it in the IMAX if you can!!! You are totally cheering for the Yautja. I thought I would hate the Thia character...but she/synth keeps it grounded and tied back perfectly to earth and the human's need for consumption. I think both the Alien and Predator universes still have more to give.
BEST to worst of the Predator series...(in my opinion): 1. Predator (1987), of course, gotta let the original stand alone.
2. Tie: Killer of Killers (2025) & Predator- Badlands (2025) 3. Prey (2022) 4. Predators (2010) 5. Alien vs. Predator (2004) 6. The Predator (2018) 7. Predator 2 (1990) 8. Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem (2007)...worst ever.

A feel good family friendly film, doesn't sound right...
...that's because the Predator has gone through Disneyification: make it more humorous and palatable for children, making the Predator safe enough to watch as a family viewing, yeah I know it sounds ridiculous!
It was like a marvel superhero film mixed in with sci-fi adventure and the typical marvel like coming of age tale for a young superhero. Certainly doesn't capture the horror and tension of Predator 1, 2 or even Predators (2010), if that's what you were hoping for, but it was never built up to be like that. At best, I appreciate there's another different and decent take on the Predator franchise (just like Predator: killer of killers), too much of the same can be boring.
I think Prey is better with it's story and soundtrack (and wish it was released in the cinema). Predator Badlands mildly expands on the lore, the main two actors perform their roles well and the film is a nice visual spectacle, minus the heavy and noticeable CGI. Though none of this is worth paying a premium screen for (I saw it in a isense screen) let alone rush out to a normal screen. You won't miss out if you wait for it on streaming. 6/10, it was a different and decent take on the Predator franchise but I don't think it's memorable or has rewatchability like 1, 2, Predators and Prey. Predator Badlands is a one time watch.

Give Hollywood long enough, it'll ruin everything...
So after the Disneyfication of Star Wars and Alien, we finally get around to the abject ruination of the beloved Predator series. True, Shane Black came mighty close with The Predator back in 2018 and best not mention Alien v. Predator: Requiem at all but, in the excellent wake of Prey and Predator: Killer of Killers, hopes were extremely high for whatever Dan Trachtenberg would come up with next.
And then this. Predator meets the Mickey Mouse club or Predator and Stitch. Whatever, you get the picture. What we have been dished up here is the very furthest thing we could possibly have been given from the Predator we know and love.
I won't go into the depressing details of what we actually have to endure for the sake of the poor suckers who are going to spend their hard earned sheckles seeing this mess but I just need to say that Elle Fanning and Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi give it their best... and that's about it. Too much CGI, not enough horror and absolutely no tension.
This is gonna take a lot of coming back from....

Very disappointing
I had such high hopes for this movie after Dan Trachtenberg drag the Predator franchise out of the gutter and restored it to its former glory with Prey. Well if Pray was Star Wars, Badlands is Episode II: Attack of the Clones. They tried to inject a lot of humour into this movie which just didn't work for me, and I didn't feel it should have had a place in this movie. I found some of it just ridiculous. The story is actually very good and could have been epic in the same way Prey was. Prey is an incredible movie in so many ways and I was expecting Badlands to be the same, sadly, for me it wasn't. There are good elements in this film such as gaining some insight into the Predators home world and culture. I also though Elle Fanning was fantastic in this movie. If Badlands had taken itself more seriously I would have liked it a whole lot more. I don't actually think the fault lays with Dan Trachtenberg This is a 12A in the UK and I'm pretty sure Disney were trying to make it appeal to children. So once again Disney take something wonderful and completely destroy it. I'd love to see Dan Trachtenberg original script and not the Disneyfied version.

¿Sabías que...?
- CuriosidadesMatt Duffer, Ross Duffer: Director Dan Trachtenberg asked the twin brother writing-directing duo to make an unexpected audio appearance in the film, as the voice of the Yautja-engineered software that powers the ship the central character, Dek, is flying aboard. The Duffer Brothers' voices are heavily distorted to more properly match the condition of the ship itself, but they are also speaking the Yautja language. According to Trachtenberg himself, prior to both of those Predator projects getting greenlit, he was dubious about whether or not they would both get made, and actually signed on to direct an episode of Stranger Things' final season. However, when both Predator projects were thrust into production for release this year, he ultimately had to renege on his Stranger Things commitment. "The truth of the matter was that I didn't know that Killer of Killers and Badlands were going to get greenlit at the same time," Trachtenberg recalled. "So I thought I could still squeeze in a Stranger Things episode, but then they both happened at the same time, and I just could not do three things at once. The Duffer Brothers were mixing an episode of Stranger Things at the same time we were mixing Badlands. We didn't have a voice yet for Kwei's ship's computer." And thus, the Duffer Brothers got the gig, as an apology and a surprise of sorts. "We had a really fun time in the booth together, and it was pretty cool," Trachtenberg concludes.
- PifiasWolves don't actually have alphas. Pack animals are family units. The "alpha" is just the parents. Thia who has vast knowledge of animals should know this simple fact. Thia's explanation that the wolf leader is the one who best protects the pack as opposed to being the strongest killer who bullies the rest into subservience is actually correct. Considering Thia never brings up the inaccurate alpha hypothesis, it's entirely possible that she's simply using the term "alpha" because it has become synonymous with "pack leader", given that the rest of her information seems to be correct.
