A Sequel Without a Spark
"The Family Plan 2" tries to expand on the success of its predecessor, but in doing so, it abandons most of what made the first film so charming. What was once a playful mix of comedy and light action becomes a more serious, straightforward action movie - and unfortunately, that shift strips away the heart and fun that defined the original.
The biggest issue is how redundant the film feels. Instead of offering new ideas, fresh character moments, or a clever twist on the formula, it reuses familiar beats without adding anything of value. The humor - the core ingredient that made the first movie stand out - is almost absent. In its place is a tone that's noticeably heavier, but not in a compelling way.
As a more serious action film, it struggles. The action sequences are competent but uninspired, and the story never rises beyond mediocrity. Without the comedic personality of the first movie, the characters feel flatter, their interactions less lively, and the overall experience far more forgettable.
It's a shame, because the potential was there. The first film showed how lighthearted fun and simple storytelling could blend into something genuinely enjoyable. But "The Family Plan 2" trades that identity for something blander, and the result is a sequel that feels unnecessary and strangely hollow.
Not terrible - just painfully average, and a letdown compared to the movie that came before it.

Extremely cheesy
Uninspired HS level directing screenplay acting
much like this review.
I wonder if this was some uncle pulling favors for a nephew. But then how did they get this cast? And what was Mark thinking.
I guess it was shot in Paris so that is a plus.
Three stars because I don't know what one star would mean really.

Tired
I'll admit Michelle is always gorgeous to watch but even that didn't rescue the film for me. I felt almost no real effort by anybody went into this film. It simply felt like chatGPT had come up with the story line.
The locations also seemed entirely arbitrary. As if the cast wanted to just get air miles. I fell asleep about 3/4 of the way through so it may of got better but everything up to that point seemed a bit pointless.

Wahlberg family Christmas action-comedy in Europe
Perfectly watchable holiday action-comedy: some laughs, some decent chases, lovely Christmas shots of London and Paris. Pacing is on-and-off; it'll get exciting, then suddenly boring, then picks up again. Mix of James Bond + Mission Impossible + family drama + Christmas cheese. Nothing great, nothing terrible. Exactly the kind of lazy holiday morning movie you can half-watch while doing other stuff. 6/10, one-time background watch, will probably rewatch next December while decorating the tree.
A Cute Family Action Romp
Look, this isn't meant to be a Jason Statham style action-packed movie. It has all the trappings for it, sure. But, it's self aware enough to know it's not fooling anyone. It's great for an end of the Holiday Family Crash out on the Couch night.
Dad will prob fall asleep, but the movie is wholesome enough to be wiz-bang and done well enough to not drive a film buff crazy. But, it's filled with tropes, safe for the kiddos, and enough to crash out to. If you miss the ending from passing out, don't worry. It's that kinda of movie.

¿Sabías que...?
- CuriosidadesDan (Mark Wahlberg) sells "pre-owned" vehicles. His wife, Jessica (Michelle Monaghan), is afforded the opportunity for coaching job in Columbus, Ohio. Mark Wahlberg actually owns Chevrolet dealership with locations in Columbus.
- PifiasThe encrypted system is variously described as being a mainframe and using the USB stick Kyle created to destroy the contents of the system.
Mainframe computers are not servers or personal computers and require highly specialized skills, software and hardware, as they are intended for massive volumes of transactional computations, not in serving content in the way most people understand computers as operating.
An 18 year old would not have been exposed to, or had opportunity to develop the skills and built the proprietary hardware to directly interface with a mainframe computer in the way described.
