The oldest of two children (younger sister Serena is an accomplished soprano opera singer), Frank is the grandson of some of Utah's original pioneering family members who settled Spanish Fork in the 1840s. He is the son of Lavinia Ludlow, a teacher and state representative and Charles Kanig.
