Sawan Kumar was going to launch Shilpa Shirodkar with the film Souten Ki Beti. She signed the contract in 1986 that would contractually oblige her to be committed to the film for 4 years. She was not to sign any other film. Sawan got busy with Pyar Ki Jeet and the Souten Ki Beti got delayed. Then Rajesh Khanna and Tina Munium walked out of the film after breaking up. The film further went into delay. Meanwhile Shilpa Shirodkar got a offer from Raj Kapoor for Henna. Then Mithun decided to launch Shilpa in the film Prahar, directed by Raj Tilak. Shilpa decided to break her contract and start signing films. This is when Sawan decided to sue Shilpa Shirodkar's mother for breach of contract . Shilpa's mother reasoned that the film was delayed for 3 years with no shooting done at all. Plus the monthly money promised by Sawan Kumar Tak stopped after the first month. So they broke the contract due to his unprofessional behavior.
