Like his father Patrick Troughton, but in contrast to his brother David Troughton, he has displayed a preference for television over theatre throughout his acting career, considering theatre too strenuous and exhausting.
After The New Statesman (1987) I was beginning to get very similar sorts of parts and I just got bored. I really didn't want to do theatre that much. I was offered various tours and things like that.
