Originally in 1986, he was hired by Cannon Films to re-write Ted Newsom's Spider-Man screenplay to accommodate the 8 million budget in which it made Joseph Zito quit the project, suggesting a new director.
One of Cohen's ideas was written into the script:
1. Doctor Octopus is called Professor Ock, Octopus, or Octavius.
2. Octavius has a assistant by the name of "Weiner".
3. Octavius says "Okey-Dokey" many times in the script.
4. Octavius gets bitten by a Spider and claims himself to be the true Spider-Man
5. Weiner is Uncle Ben's killer.
