Michael Boctor is an award-winning, self-made freelance film director, writer, editor, and cinematographer. He is best known for leading a media effort to educate the public on predatory billing practices in medicine after research by Johns Hopkins revealed several US hospitals were suing patients and garnishing their wages. He created the film series, "The True Experts of Health Care," which garnered national media attention and eventually lead to legislative change with the Price Transparency Executive Order passed by President Donald Trump. Following his film series, lawsuits against patients decreased by approximately 80%, according to a study published in the Journal of American Medical Association (JAMA).
After a successful start to his film career, Boctor transitioned his skill set to the field of Medicine. He received a full-tuition scholarship to attend medical school at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, where he was among the top of his class earning entry into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. While in medical school, he continued to produce several award winning films, including his documentary "8:46 on Magnificent Mile" which was recognized by the Webby Awards as a 2021 Honoree.
Dr. Boctor is pursuing a career in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and has since utilized his creative skills to create renowned surgical videos and raise the standard for educational content. He continues to provide commercial services to prominent medical device companies.
