Russell Core (Jeffrey Wright) is a hunter and author who is summoned to the desolate town of Keelut, Alaska by Medora Sloane, a young mother who son has been taken by a pack of wolves. She wants Russell to hunt down and kill the wolves. Medora's husband, Vernon (Erik Skarsgard) is an Army soldier in Irag who gets shot and returns home. Russell gets mixed up in something that had nothing to do with the pack of wolves and more to do with the4 animals in the town (humans). He and Sheriff Marium (James Dale) know something else is afoot, but are not quite sure what.
The movie has a very slow plot and it plods along at a glacial pace. However, the Alaskan landscape and the gloomy atmosphere act as almost another cast member. There is a supernatural element as well and its creepy and seductive as we follow along with Core to figure out what is going on. I'm not sure I fully understand exactly what happened, but it was acted, directed and photographed so well, its kind of beside the point. It did feel like there was more to the story that did not get explained very well in the movie (I've heard other reviewers mention that you should read the book), but even without knowing what the heck was going on, I still enjoyed it.
I'm going to research the book and then come back and watching the ending again to see if it makes more senses.
