CONCLUSION: There are many cases of the game being very familiar to its previous games, but thanks to Turn 10's generosity, Forza Motorsport 6 welcomes newcomers with suitable opponents and overwhelming content and offers a fair reason for fans to switch to this.
- Forza Motorsport 6 is more functional and content-ample than FM5, with up to 24 players (from 16) in single- and multiplayer sessions; with 103 tracks and over 700 cars from the conventional to the open-wheeled, to the Beetle and other classics, to the Hummer and the six-wheeler, and even to NASCARs, drivers can get a lot (and perhaps could get the most until the later Forza games) from FM6 in the franchise. It essentially took everything that was good in FM5 and fixed what harmed that game to make it seem like a demo of a larger game.
- In the graphically eye-candy world of racing and occasional gameplay twists where one can know about cars and tracks, players customize, paint, and tune cars for optimal experience based on their preferences and sense of intuition. Be it a car painted to resemble that of the police or a 148-KW Beetle from 1963, the results can make the experience far more interesting than Turn 10 Studios probably meant it to be, and mechanics in areas like drifting are agreeable under the tires. Change tire pressure for more turning or drifting or traction, change tire types for specific car statistics, andchange anything to accomplish your goal.
- Difficulty settings reward more to the competent, where outsmarting tougher opponents and manually shifting gears, as well as disabling TCS, ABS, and suggestion lines for braking, all result in higher pay. Rewind removes frustration from erring. Disabling that also results in higher pay, but even then, players and the AI equally make mistakes, and one can easily learn to exploit the challenging AI, as by driving in front of a speeding car, by forcing a car to drive off-road on corners, and by knocking aside racers like. Speaking of the AI, they are also tough and competent, and are just as so as playing against 23 other players.
- New to this game besides the NASCARs et al. are the weather conditions. From daytime to black night to skid-mongering rain, they add variety and give one further reason why Forza Motorsport 6 is superior over its predecessors. The puddles in rainy conditions remain in the same areas, but I suppose that is generally normal with similar amounts of rain and grooves or impressions in the road, especially if that means that all players have the equal opportunity to race against others on the leaderboards.
CONS
- FM6 is too derivative of its predecessors. It is a decent Forza game up to the standards with enough tread, but then again, so are all of the other Forza Motorsport games before 5. It indeed does have a great variety and selection of cars from open-wheels to NASCARs and even a 6-wheeler and a large number of tracks, there are also many instances of the player thinking, "Oh, racing, tuning, customization, Forzavista, and all. I've been through that before in the previous games," so with nothing terribly innovative in the pits, it is mostly very good traditional racing against opponents or time.
- On top of that, there is somewhat dreadful progression due to long races and campaign. Forza Motorsport 6 is supposed to be realistic and the most accurate racing simulator of 2015. However, there are times where it may be better to lean more practical than realistic, and really, everyone should prioritize the laws of practicality. In this case, races are generally predefined to be over 4 laps long, and I found that it is relatively common for races to last 15 or 20 minutes long, with some being over 30 minutes and a few to last somewhere in the few hours. Most of the races of race games that I have played beforehand were often much shorter, or at least just shorter, than that. I believe that that is the result of the repetitive gameplay of many minutes into driving around corners by braking and drifting, past other racers, and occasionally into the pits for gasoline and damage repair, all on the same course. If the races were shorter and the campaign and the game overall had a wider variety of game modes than mostly traditional racing, I can see giving FM6 a pass.
CONCLUSION: There are many cases of the game being very familiar to its previous games, but thanks to Turn 10's generosity, Forza Motorsport 6 welcomes newcomers with suitable opponents and overwhelming content and offers a fair reason for fans to switch to this.
