Camilleri's Vigata... What else is there to say? That imaginary town of Sicily was created by the master to serve as a setting to his relevant fiction, yet, to me it is the most real place on earth. Every emotion, every motivation, every character is real beyond discussion. Even the fault lines are real - no artificial mathematics behind the actions.
Honestly, I wasn't expecting this particular adaptation to be as great as it is. Yet, moments passed by smoothly as I was absorbed in all those colorful characters. The whole experience proved to be even somewhat better and more intriguing than "La mossa del cavallo".
Sicily + Camilleri = High octane literature. And I guess everyone involved in those productions is very aware of that, to the point that they just allow the source material take the reins, and not mess with stuff.
Two notes that are not directly related to the movie, but to my experience of seeing it:
My eye was catching Francesco Scianna, the lead actor, from the very start. I thought I knew him from some other RAI productions, but then woke up to the fact that he was a doppelganger of Cihan Ünal's youth.
Last night Rai1 aired this film for the 2nd time after its 2019 premiere. However, they skipped the final and crucial 10 minutes, just because some round table was to start. It was incredible. Beats all reasoning that, they announce such a fine production many times during the week, let you get fascinated by a mystery, and then just go "well, we won't air how it ends!". Thankfully I managed to find online that final part.
