La mujer del puerto

Just a couple of years earlier(1931), Santa had been a great success(Santa is the story of a prostitute). Even in our days, Producers always like to repeat stories that make money for them(Star wars, Rocky, etc.). La mujer del Puerto is the story of a Peasant girl that betrayed by her boyfriend turns into a prostitute. She lives in a house by the port and sells her body to sailors that arrive to the place. The real story behind this movie is the fact that Rosario, the prostitute seems to live a life of guilt where she feels sorry for living such life. It is a story that tries to demonstrate that such profession is not something that anyone may want to follow, it is a picture that shows us her internal contradictory thoughts. The movie has a mix of good scenes and ridiculous ones. It is not a movie that follows the same pattern all the time. Perhaps the best of this movie is the presence of the leading lady, Andrea Palma. The ending is as good as any tragic soap opera that has ever existed.
