      In the early 1970s director Henry King was interviewed for the American Film Institute's oral history project, and spoke of this film. "One More Spring was a very popular book. I read it on the train coming from New York and thought it would make a charming picture, but it didn't. People didn't want to see things that were so real, happening around them all the time. It was made as a comedy, but became too serious. It was really a tragedy." He also said: "It would have been great to do it after the Depression, but to do it during the middle didn't work out."

    One More Spring review

    Victims of the depression cope with the day-to-day challenges of finding warmth and shelter. A clear-eyed view of the depression which manages to be warm-hearted without growing too sentimental. Janet Gaynor and the under-appreciated Warner Baxter make a likeable couple (even though they're not an actual couple for most of the movie), while Walter Woolf King provides enjoyably spiky comic relief. The hardship suffered by the characters is inevitably sanitised for a '30s audience - although it's difficult to see how that many of them would have wanted to watch a reflection of their own life experiences at a time when Hollywood was all about escapism. Deserves to be a classic but is unjustly forgotten.
