Average Tortilla Western , being uneven though professionally realized by the best Paella Western director , Joaquin Romero Marchent . In the picture appears several Western myths such as an usual drunk as well as joker Wild Bill Hickock (Adrian Hoven) , a tomboy Calamity Jane (Gloria Milland) and a serious Buffalo Bill (Rick Van Nutter or Clyde Rogers) . This is a mighty adventure when America's destiny rode in the saddle bags of the Pony Express . At the beginning , 1858 , Buffalo Bill and Wild Bill Hickock work to establish the Pony Express join forces to establish a mail route that can get mail from St. Joseph, Missouri, to Sacramento, California, as well they fight Indians and enemies who seek to destroy it . Later on , Buffalo Bill is driving a wagon train where meets a priest (Francisco Sanz), his niece (Sommerfeld) and a friendly Indian (Raf Baldassarre) . Then , the girl is kidnapped by Sioux and Buffalo Bill attempts to free her ; of course , both of whom fall in love . Along the way they must battle hostile Indians and outlaws (Antonio Molino Rojo , Alvaro De Luna , Lorenzo Robledo) intent on gunrunning . Buffalo Bill befriends an Indian Pawnee chief (Mariano Vidal Molina) who is battling Sioux Indians . After that , on Black Hills is found gold mines and then ¨The Gold Rush¨ takes place .
This regular western contains a story full of adventure , up and downs pace , thrills and passable direction . However , it results to be a very mediocre Chorizo-Spaghetti-Schnizel Western mostly produced by Spain and German/Italian secondary participation ; it doesn't follow the Sergio Leone wake and being proceeded in American style . The film packs action , shootouts , good feeling , high body-count , Indian attacks and some touches of humor in charge of Adrian Hoven playing a drunken and comical Bill Wild . It's a thrilling western with spectacular outdoors and breathtaking confrontation among badly-dressed Indians and soldiers . Acceptable action sequences with rousing Indian attacks against a town and little realistic shootouts . Charismatic performance for whole casting as a sympathetic as well as wasted trio protagonist as Rick Van Nutter , Gloria Milland and Adrian Hoven ; both of them play little credible historic roles . Besides , Ralf Baldassarre, here in an unusual role as a good Indian , as an attractive character , nemesis his ordinary slimy, menacing outlaws who he habitually played . There appears as secondaries the customary in Spanish/Italian Western such as Francisco Sanz , Chris Huerta , Lorenzo Robledo , Mariano Vidal Molina , Santiago Rivero , Antonio Molino Rojo , Alfonso Rojas and of course Alvaro De Luna who still continues playing . Furthermore , Carlos Romero Marchent who always appears as a young secondary in films of his brothers Joaquin and Rafael Romero Marchent .The musician Angelo Lavagnino composes a nice soundtrack , well conducted with agreeable leitmotif . Lousy cinematography filmed by Rafael Pacheco , being necessary a right remastering ; filmed on locations in Colmenar Viejo , La Pedriza, Manzanares el Real (Madrid) , as usual . Including good sets by Jaime Perez Cubero who carried out the most Production Design on Western shot in Spain.
The motion picture was middlingly directed and in traditional style by recently deceased Joaquin Luis Romero Marchent (1921-2012) . He's is an expert writer and director of good Western . His first film was ¨El Coyote¨ and the sequel titled ¨Revenge of Coyote¨ shot in Mexico . After that , he filmed ¨The shadow of Zorro¨ and ¨Revenge of Zorro¨. He went go directing Western as ¨ Riding to death ¨ , ¨Adventures in the West¨ , ¨Three good men¨, ¨Sabor Venganza ¨ and the most popular and violent ¨Condenados a Vivir¨ . Plus , he wrote for his brother Rafael Romero Marchent the followings Western : ¨Manos Torpes¨, ¨Ocaso un Pistolero¨ and ¨Garringo¨ . Rating : Average , though it has some entertaining moments.
