I just saw this film on "You Tube" as an option recommended by Google and since it was a Catalan film and filmed in Barcelona at the music hall "El Molino" of legendary fame, as the "Moulin Rouge" in Paris, having owned an apartment not too far away from that theater when I lived in that city, many years ago, nostalgia plus curiosity to see again that neighborhood made me stay put during the whole length of this movie.
Very basic film, almost crass in its conception, several stories briefly recounted in a hilarious way about these vedettes that appeared practically naked in front of a male audience, stories all threaded by a male comic character that on the stage interprets an extremely mannered gay man and in real life runs, panting with desire, after every new chorus girl, promising them (previous access to their personal charms) the position of First Vedette in the next Musical Review.
An interesting historical detail: In 1977 they still suffered the Franco censorship --although he died in 1975, but we should check these details in history books-- maybe the action is supposed to take place some years previously to the filming, but that isn't made clear during the action.
Surprisingly the film is very well acted (broad comic acting) and very well edited, with a sustained pacing that is kept up from beginning to end while at the same time it's a vehicle to show gorgeous women practically naked (ostrich feathers and rhinestones galore) doing basic dancing steps and strip tease numbers on this tiny stage while the old audience goes wild (the older the wilder).
Very entertaining movie if you disconnect completely your intellect and just enjoy the goings on on the screen. Unfortunately they didn't show any streets of Barcelona, as I expected but I saw the interior of this Catalonian institution that was of notorious fame during the first half of the XXth Century and, by the time this film was made, during the 70s, had already seen better days.
A nostalgia piece to be seen and enjoyed by Barcelonians and admirers of Catalan humor (the Musical Review type of humor I mean).
