I have a lot of respect for the other three IMDb members who have already left comments on this bonkers Hong Kong horror, but I really think that they have been WAAAY too generous with their scoring on this film. Whilst I agree that Possessed 2 is certainly 'unique' viewing, offering occasionally ridiculous moments that are impossible not to enjoy, the film as a whole is a mess. With awful pacing and editing, dreadful effects, and a story that makes almost no sense whatsoever, I found it hard to understand why everyone else was raving quite so much about it (as I write, the film has an 8.5 average!).
Possessed 2 centres on a dysfunctional married couple (adulterous husband and nagging wife) and their daughter, who move into a flat which is haunted by the spirits of a woman (who committed suicide after being jilted by her lover) and her son (who was killed by his mother). The ghosts cause all kinds of trouble for the new inhabitants, possessing both the mother and child, until the husband (with the help of a group of Hare Krishnas) decides to take action.
Yes, there are some wonderfully silly moments that sound unmissable to those who dig Asian cinematic oddities, but this particular pundit of strange films wished that the weirdness was a little more frequent and taken a couple of steps further: when a little girl turns into a flying demon and attacks a bully, I was hoping we would see him thrown around a bit more (instead, the action freezes on his terrified face); when a jive talking African warrior gets attacked by a werewolf woman, I wanted to see him torn apart (rather than just receive a few nasty scratches); and at the end, when the wife is trapped by the 'high-tech' Hare Krishnas, I would've liked an outrageously gory finalé (the bloodletting level is fairly lowone arm gets ripped off and someone gets shot in the eye).
With so many superb extremely OTT Eastern films out there to see, I cannot find it within myself to recommend Possessed 2 as highly as others have. I suppose, if you've nothing else to watch, it passes the time fairly well, but compared with my favourite 'out-there' HK films (Red to Kill, The Seventh Curse, We're Going To Eat You, the Untold Story), this is really rather tame.
