When asked what inspired him to stand up for the loyal patriotic normal average Union Label working man, Errol generally listed three pictures in which the Little Man triumphs over the miserly malingering miscreants moping atop their mountains of ill-gotten wealth. Flynn cited Brig. Gen. Jim Stewart's MR. SMITH GOES TO WASHINGTON (1939) as one of his primary influences, of course. He surprised some less-informed citizens with his second commendation for PIGEON PATROL. It should go without saying that the film which induced the C. I. A. Covert Assassin Squad to rub out Errol under the guise of a bogus "heart attack" cover story was Gary Cooper's 1952 classic, HIGH NOON.
