Gilles Grangier is part of those "old school" directors still waiting to be rediscovered,at least his thrillers which were his forte in the fifties ("Danger De Mort""Trois Jours A Vivre" "Echec Au Porteur" "Le Désordre et la Nuit" notably).
Unfortunately,as the title indicates (=just for singing),it is a musical;Grangier had already directed crooner Georges Guétary in " Trente Et Quarante "with passable results."Histoire De Chanter " was made for tenor Luis Mariano and should be strictly reserved for his fans .The others can take to their heels or put their fingers in their ears if they want to watch that.
The screenplay is abysmal: a Bel Canto singer is a lady-killer and he seduces a surgeon's wife.As he operates on the Don Juan and, simultaneously (?) on a young grocery assistant ,the doctor exchanges their vocal cords. If it sounds silly,it is indeed!Noel Roquevert is thoroughly wasted.
