Wmorrow59's review of "Toot Sweet!" seems to be right on target, as they felt that this Lloyd Hamilton was as disappointment as well as a film that might have worked better as a silent. It sure lacked laughs and could have easily been much better.
The short is almost like two separate films. In the first portion, Lloyd buys a junker car from a dealer who then helps him to try to impress a girl. Afterwards, he meets a foreign lady on his own and she turns out to be the turning point in the film....as the film becomes tedious and unfunny...especially when she starts breaking stuff at a swanky night club.
This is an unfunny film...period. Again and again, funny situations are introduced but little is made of them. The second half, in particular, is actually tiresome and I found myself wanting it all to just end! Hamilton could be quite funny...but here not so much.
By the way, if you care, the dance where the French guy tosses the woman about as if they are trying to hurt each other is called the Apache Dance...though it has absolutely nothing to do with American Indians.
