Vietnam Nominates Film for Oscar Awards
09/27/2006 - News Vietnam has nominated Chuyen Cua Pao (Pao's Story) for this year's Oscar Awards. Its Cinematography Department is completing formalities to send the film to the American Academy for Best Foreign Language Film after it is screened in some venues in the US. Vietnam is one of the 83 countries invited to send films for the five nominations for Best Foreign Language Film at the 79th Annual Academy Awards to be held in September next year. Pao's Story, adapted from the short story Tieng Dan Moi Sau Bo Rao Da (The Panpipe's Sound Behind the Stone Fence) by Do Bich Thuy, tells a story of remote ethnic Mong villagers and a young girl named Pao. It features her journey to find the real value of happiness and explores the inner emotions of other ethnic women who live under the pressure of traditional customs. Pao is played by renowned actress Hai Yen, 24, who featured in the international hit The Quiet American based on the book by Graham Greene. Pao's Story won the Vietnam Cinematography Association's Golden Kite Award for the Best Feature Film in 2006. The Vietnamese film "Chuyen Cua Pao" (Pao's Story), directed by Ngo Quang Hai, is on a two-week tour in the US. The film made its debut to a full house at the Columbia University's 300-seat Learner Hall. Hundreds of US and Vietnamese viewers stayed after the show to talk with director Ngo Quang Hai and main actress Hai Yen, expressing their hope to enjoy more Vietnamese films in the US. The film will continue its tour to famous universities such as the Yale, Harvard and Stanford before going to a film festival in Japan.-Enditem
