This episode is just perfect in every way.
More and more characters are showing their true colors, people claiming other dragons for themselves, stabbings and backstabbings, seeds of a civil war being sown, relationship dynamics of pretty much everyone changing.
This is the episode where ish really hit the fans and characters stop being coy and show their true intentions to each other, especially Rhaenyra and Alicent.
I really loved that the twists kept coming and multiple times throughout the episode, even till the end, the character we were rooting for just 3 minutes ago does something and becomes a pos immediately, and it shows that none of the characters here, at least the main ones, is that good and all of them are drowning in depravity as Rhaenyra herself said.
Last episode that we were introduced to the children, they were mostly side characters and had a less direct impact on the events of the episode and the show as a whole, but in this episode they're pretty much the main characters as they start a domino effect of a series of unfortunate events that escalates quickly and is gonna change the course of history.
Everything in this episode was pretty much perfect, from the direction and the pacing which got more intense and escalated as the episode went on, to the acting, music, and cinematography, and the great twists and the writing. Though the CGI isn't perfect, it is still acceptable and I'm sure this season definitely doesn't have the budget that GOT had for later seasons. It is still really good, but it's still noticeable in scenes where people are flying a dragon.
All in all, this was a great and enjoyable episode and the starter of a chain reaction that will presumably lead to even more intense episodes and events in the following episodes.

Greetings from Lithuania.
"Driftmark", a 7th episode of "House of Dragon" was a superb because it moved story forward in a dramatic way (no spoilers). Sometime one spark causes things to move. And talking about dysfunctional families - they got nothing on this family we are seeing.
I loved the mood of this episode. It was dark, and you can see and feel how the clouds are becoming darker over heads of this family. Alliances are being made and friends becoming even closer.
Overall, 7 episodes into this show i really like it. Haven't read any of the books but i love quality television, and "House of Dragon" is one to admire.

After introducing us to a new cast, this episode gets under way in explaining the relationships between not just the Rhaenyra/Alicent but more important they're families. It leads to a lot of suspense, a great climax and you see further division between the families and one of the coolest parts: start to see how young characters understand the game of thrones and their affinity or lack thereof for playing it.
I see lots of complaints about the show saying how there is no tension, how the show is a soap opera, and focuses only on families. A lot of the complaints compare this show to GoT, saying there's too much talking and that nothing happens. To anyone complaining, you realize Westeros is at peace right? No one is at war? So people aren't looking to kill each other.. yet. The very reason there is so much fighting in GoT is because dragons and Targaryens are gone in Westeros. So give the show time, and realize that is a different show, just as Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad are different. Great acting, great production, great writing.

So let's talk about the elephant in the room first. The director who was already known for putting a dark muddy filter on his shows has done it again. And it continues to be a 'swing and a miss'. Whatever artistic vision the director had was lost in millions of people squinting at the screens fuzzy dark filtered screen. It added nothing to the feel,..other than annoyance
Outside of that, the episode was really good. A bit more melodrama than I'm used to in GOT, but the show went far enough with GOT teeth to make up for it.
While I liked it. It did feel a bit like "pick any city housewife's show with dragons". The new kings daughter still irks me. She lacks the prowess and strength the original lady had. And that was just when she stood there. When both act, the younger one was much more imposing. I wish they had just added aging makeup. The queen swap was pretty stemless in appearance and also show/character presence
But this is just my preference and even with that...it's still a really strong show.

While i really loved what the younger cast did, i honestly dont miss them. The emotional span older and more experienced cast members have is exactly what this show needed and Emma D'Arcys characterwork with Rhaenyra is finally getting the attention it deservers. Amazing through and through, and the energy between her and Matt Smith is just perfection.
Boy, I never thought S1 would be this good. Its not surpringing that the show is breaking viewer number even good GoT eps got.
I expect it to rise ever further going forward och I couldnt be happier with what we got. Passing insanely high expectrations is really tough, but HoD really did it. Aplaude!
