John Carroll lynch (who plays the trooper) was the only character worth watching in the Pilot episode; all the other characters We're terribly written, and that chick fight was the epitome of ridiculousness. All the characters were classic tropes, and not in a good way. It has some really great actors in it too, so i'm hoping things can only go uphill from here. The truck scene was pretty unbelievable too. I'm just surprised at how cringe worthy most of the episode was. I won't ruin the ending for you, but I mean is anyone really that shocked when a TV series pulls a stunt like that anymore? I remember being shocked when it happened to drew Barrymore in 'scream' back in the 90s, but I don't think it had the shock factor that the writers of 'Big Sky' were hoping for. The whole episode downplays the viewers intelligence several times. The ending I saw coming as soon as the two of them met up in the end.
The premise of the pilot which puts the girls in the spot to be kidnapped would require them to have avoided a 20-30 minute traffic delay by taking a "shortcut" which would extend their drive time by 5-10 hours, depending on how busy Yellowstone National Park was on that day. Nobody who knows the area would do that.
Also, the stretch of highway where they were taken (between Yellowstone and Bozeman) would be more likely to be covered by local sheriffs since it's a state highway and not one of the two Interstates which pass through the western half of the state. MHP could cover that area, but unless something has changed since I lived in the area, they don't have the resources to be covering that kind of road.
Also, if I'm remembering correctly, it seemed like the parents in Helena had been thinking about just "popping by" when the kidnapped girls reached Boseman? Those two towns are 100 miles or so apart, it's not like just jumping in the car and taking a quick 10 minutes across town to visit from one to the other.
This show lost me during the pilot just from the geographic insanity. Lots of people in entertainment spend time in MT, but it seems like none were involved with this project at any level.

I want to like this one but so far this show is a disappointment. I sure hope the writing and acting gets better.
John Carroll Lynch as State Trooper Legarski plays off of his Fargo role to a great surprise ending that has got me hooked on the show.
This type of show rarely shows up on mainstream tv. It's got that HBO classiness stamped all over it.
Good cast, capable of carrying a big production. I can't say much because I'm finding it would be very difficult to avoid spoiling it. OMG is there a twist in episode 1.
I can assure that I am hopelessly hooked. Meaning I can't wait for the second episode.

- TriviaThe bridge shown about the 5 minutes mark, before the deputy helps the man stuck in the mud, is the same bridge they used for the finale of Supernatural (2005).
- ErroresIn a common Hollywood error, tasers do not knock people out, they are a pain compliance tool. Additionally, the one using the taser is seen with his hand on the bare skin of the other person, which would result in him receiving an electric shock also.

Jenny Hoyt: Is that the lyric of the day? It's all over now.
Cassie Dewell: What's going on?
Jenny Hoyt: You tell me, Cass. Are you sleeping with my husband?
